Perforated strut channel braces clamped to a steel beam and supporting ceiling-mounted services

Application

Electrical Conduits and Cable Tray Systems

Cable tray, trunking and busbar runs are carried on channel supports and braced against lateral movement, keeping the electrical route independent of the pipework.

Electrical routes are usually the last service to be installed, so their supports have to fit into the space left by the pipes and ducts. Cantilever arms and trapeze frames from the channel range allow the tray to be set at the required elevation and adjusted on site.

Bracing follows the same principle as for pipes: channel struts anchored to the structure and fixed to the tray side rail.

Technical basis

  • GB 50981-2014 requires seismic bracing for electrical conduit over 60 mm internal diameter.
  • The same code requires bracing for cable tray, trunking and busbar runs weighing 150 N/m or more.
  • GB 50303 covers the acceptance of electrical installation works.

Standards are quoted as the design reference used in our technical documentation.
